YOU DON’T HAVE TO ENDURE MENSTRUAL PROBLEMS..

Menstrual problems are among the most common health problems women experience during their reproductive years. Studies have shown that a large proportion of the females of reproductive age suffer from menstruation-related health issues which do not only carry an economic burden but also commonly cause psychological and behavioral disorders including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety and eating disorders.
There are various types of menstrual disorders, including heavy menstruation (menorrhagia), painful menstruation (dysmenorrhea), premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and irregular menstruation (oligomenorrhea).
Menstrual problems can be affected by several factors, including age, ethnicity, family history, smoking, physical activity, underlying illness, hormonal irregularities, and dietary habits. Hormonal imbalance in particular has been cited as the most common contributor known to cause a variety of menstrual disorders including menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea, oligomenorrhea and PMS.
Despite the significant number of women who suffer from these problems, existing treatments are limited and most only dull the symptoms without dealing with the actual cause.
World Health Organization (WHO) has identified the prevalence of heavy menstruation (menorrhagia) as 8-27% of the women aged between 15 and 44 and painful menstruation (dysmenorrhea) as 20-90%. Premenstrual Syndrome is listed in the international statistical classification of disease and related health problems (10th revision 1CD-10).
DKT Nigeria continues to stay true to its vision to improve women’s lives by introducing an improved new generation daily oral contraceptive pill. This daily pill is amazingly effective in the treatment of menstrual problems and helps women improve the quality of their lives.
Desofem, a new generation daily oral contraceptive pill containing desogestrel 0.15mg and ethinylestradiol 0.03mg can be safely used in the treatment of several menstrual conditions in women, and can also be used to effectively prevent pregnancy. Desofem provides quick and effective relief for women with heavy menstrual periods (menorrhagia), painful menstruation (dysmenorrhea) and premenstrual Syndrome (PMS).

Since its launch, Desofem is fast becoming the preferred treatment choice among healthcare providers for women with menstrual problems. Desofem users have been reported to get the desired relief within one to three months of using desofem.

Dr Habeeb Hassan of Iwalewa Hospital, Magbon, Badagry, “Desofem was detailed to me by a DKT Clinical Services Rep. At first, I felt there was no need to try it out as I am used to my regular daily pill in the management of idiopathic menorrhagia. I then decided to use it on a client with severe menorrhagia that had been bleeding since last December. Since she could not afford the hormonal uterine contraceptive, I contacted the clinical services Rep to supply me a box of Desofem. As at the 15th of February, the bleeding had reduced significantly within a little over a month of use. Desofem is a lifesaving tool in the hands of medical providers.’’

Matron Onoh of St Raphael Hospital, Okota, Lagos, ‘‘I have been managing a 22-year-old client with severe Premenstrual Syndrome and severe menstrual cramps every month. Most times, I would have to place her on opioid analgesics monthly due to the excruciating pains she experienced. When DKT Nigeria introduced me to Desofem in January, I commenced her on a one-month blister. By the next month we both noticed that her PMS symptom and dysmenorrhea were not as severe as the previous month. She has since been using Desofem and up till now I have not given her any monthly analgesics. All her complaints have subsided. Thank you DKT for this fantastic product’’

Dr Raji, MD and Family Physician, Amuloko Hospital, Oyo State, “Desofem definitely delivers as promised and has worked over 90 percent of the time at my hospital. I recently administered Desofem to 6 of my patients who presented with excessive bleeding as a result of injectable. 5 of these patients experienced desired results before they even completed one pack of desofem.
I also very recently prescribed desofem to another one of my patients with a history of premenstrual syndrome and heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia). She has been on it for 2 cycles now with no complaints at all. I’m very pleased with the results.”

Dr Tope Oyelade, Chief OBGYN, God’s Victory Clinic and Maternity Benin City, Edo State, “I got this product very recently when I signed up as a Partner Clinic with DKT Nigeria. My first experience using Desofem was with a 32 year old female patient who presented with symptoms suggestive of adenomyosis; prolonged painful menstrual cramps and heavy menstrual bleeding.  While the patient prepared for a proper workup to confirm this diagnosis, I decided to administer desofem to give much needed and affordable relief from her distressing symptoms since the patient could not immediately afford an LNG-IUS.
From the first month of use, there was a significant reduction in menstrual bleeding. The menstrual cramps also reduced, however the patients still complained of some pain from the cramping which made me add another medication to help with the pain. The patient is still on desofem and I am confident the results will continue to improve.  I will update this feedback after 2 to 3 months of use.”
